The Status Quo

Since February this year, I have been very ill with constant abdominal and chest pain, and severe anxiety. After having lots of tests and hospital visits, it is looking increasingly like my weight is to blame. I’m fat and unfit: time for a change.

My current weight: 20.6 stone (130.5 kg)
Goal weight: 10 stone (63.5 kg)

My minimum goal is to lose at least a kilo a week through a combination of dietary changes and a regular exercise regime. I’ll keep updating this blog to keep track of my progress.

Anyone who wishes to pass on encouragement and tips is most welcome and hopefully I might be able to help others with similar situations and goals.

Cheers 🙂

Monday Weigh In (Week 1)

I’ve finished the first full week of dietary change and regular exercise and everything is going well. My diet currently entails consuming no more than 1700 calories a day and consuming more to supplement exercise. My exercise in the last week was an hour of spin cycling every other day, and a two-hour brisk walk at the end of the week. Just three sessions to begin with. My target this week is to continue with the spinning and walk for an hour on the in-between days.

I’ll write more detailed information about my diet and exercise in upcoming blogs.

Previous weight (17/09/2018):  132.6 kg
Current weight (24/09/2018):  128.1 kg

Total weight loss for the week:  4.5 kg
Target weight (01/10/2018):  127.1 kg

I’m very happy to have lost four and a half kilos in my first week. This, of course is not a sustainable amount of weight to lose on a weekly basis, but I’m trying to take advantage of the early stages as much I can.

Thanks 🙂

Tenderstem Broccoli

Tenderstem broccoli, also known as broccolini, is a hybrid of broccoli and gai lan (a sort of Chinese kale). It is considered a superfood as it is rich in a variety of nutrients, and makes a great alternative to normal (calabrese) broccoli. It is a source of vitamins A, C, and E, as well as potassium and folic acid. Full nutritional information can be found here.

Broccolini

It has a slightly different flavour to normal broccoli, tasting a little more like asparagus. I like to steam mine from 20-30 minutes depending on how much I’m cooking but it can be boiled, stir-fried, grilled or even eaten raw! I normally eat three vegetables with my main meal and I like one of those to be a green. This has to be one of my favourites.

It’s a versatile vegetable and it can be added to many recipes even if just as a replacement for normal broccoli. Some recipe ideas can be found here.

Enjoy!

Monday Weigh In

Stepped onto the bathroom scales this morning and my weight is higher than recorded by my GP a few days ago. Some difference is to be expected between scales and my bathroom ones will be the ones I use mostly. Long way to, but I’m on it.

Current Weight (17/09/2018):  132.6 kg
Target Weight (24/09/2018):  131.6 kg
